Chapter 11 - Andi

Fuck.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I stared down at the little stick I was clutching in my hands. Well, not clutching, exactly, because I held it between my thumb and forefinger as if it was a ticking bomb. My eyes stayed locked on it, willing it to change even as my stomach churned with unease and nausea.

Or morning sickness.

The two little pink lines stared up at me, seeming to mock me as every part of my insides clenched.

I was pregnant.

I was pregnant, and Luke was the father.

Luke, who had told me on multiple occasions that he was a free spirit and liked the freedom his life currently had.

Luke, whom I had been so terrified of finding out that I had bought the test in secret and waited for him to leave for a couple of days before doing the test.

Luke, who I wasn’t sure wanted to be a father. Ever.

Fuck.

Inside, my wolf seemed happy, practically curled up in satisfaction and ease. I wasn’t surprised. I had always wanted to be a mom, had always dreamed about having a cub and teaching him or her to hunt and shift. It was something I had imagined nearly my entire life and looked forward to.

But not like this.

My mind was racing. I didn’t know what to do. My scent hadn’t begun to change quite yet, but it would happen in the next day or so, and then there wouldn’t be any doubting what had happened. Luke would know instantly who the father was. There was only one possibility, after all.

I bit my lip and hugged my stomach, trying not to have a panic attack. How would Luke react? I could picture it perfectly in my mind. He’d smell it the moment he saw me, and his eyes would widen in shock. Then his face would turn into a sneer of disgust. He’d call me a whore and tell me to get the fuck out of his house and never to talk to him again. He’d tell me that he didn’t want anything to do with his cub and that he’d make sure I’d get kicked out of the pack before anyone realized what had happened.

I might as well save him the trouble.

Something snapped outside, and I froze, ears pricked as I waited with bated breath. Was it Luke? But then the sound darted further into the woods, and my shoulders relaxed. A rabbit, then, or a deer. Either way, it wasn’t the shifter I was fearing.

I sighed. Luke and the other Silver Wolves had gone out yesterday, apparently to go after the suspected coup members. Luke had told me the group might have some meeting spot outside of town, and they were hunting for it and wouldn’t be back for a few days.

Good, that was good.

I looked back down at the pregnancy test with shaking hands. How the hell had this happened? Well, I knew how. I just hadn’t expected it. We had used condoms every time.

Should have been on birth control, a part of me scolded.
